Basketball Post Drills - Mikan Post Sprints

Description:

Post player must make 6 MIKAN Layups either regular or reverse (facing out towards the court). Then complete a post move vs. Defense.

Instructions:

Post player completes six successful MIKAN Layups, then takes ball out of net and throws a stong outlet pass to a guard standing foul line extended in outlet area.

Post now sprints up middle of floor while guard pushes the ball up the side court to foul line extended.

Post now posts up above block vs another defending post player. The guard must "fake pass to make pass" and relocate. The post makes a strong move or kicks out to the guard for a shot.

The offensive post now goes on defense and waits for the next post to run the floor and post him up. The post who just defended sprints to the other end. The guard also relocates to the other end.

Number of Players:

Post line under basket and guard line sideline foul line extended

Tips:

Until players understand drill, can have a coach be the defender with a pad in the lane. Important posts learn to make a strong move after running floor but also how to make inside out pass to guard.

Variations:

Have Post sprint floor into a secondary break ball screen with guard on the wing.

Skills:

Develops finishing layups inside, forces posts to throw outlet passes, sprint the floor and score vs Defense.

Encourages guards to push ball with head up, fake a pass to make a pass from proper angle and relocate for a "inside out" pass.
