Basketball Conditioning Drills - Zig Zag and Tap Drill

Description:

Team conditioner works on defensive footwork, timing on board and foot speed.

Instructions:

A line forms out of bounds at mid court.

Player one steps on the court facing the nearest sideline. On first whistle player "foot fires" for about 10 seconds with hands up at shoulders.

On second whistle player defensive Zig Zags on the half court line to the opposite sideline.

At sideline, player then defensive slides to baseline along the sideline and then sprints to basket and picks up a ball off the block.

Player then puts ball off board ten times at the top of his jump, putting in the 10th rebound, and then placing the ball back on a block.

Player then returns to end of line.

Players alternate which hoop they defensive slide towards and there are two balls sitting on the blocks at each basket.

Drill runs for 3 minutes or as long as coach feels is needed.

Number of Players:

Total team and two balls on blocks at each end of court

Tips:

Have coach at opposite sideline instructing players which basket to go to so there is not a log jam.

Variations:

None

Skills:

Great conditioner, develops footwork both in chopping of feet and sliding of feet. Plus develops quick jumping during rebounding portion while under fatigue.
