with John Brady,
Louisiana State University Head Coach

Coach Brady begins with a warm-up drill incorporating a variety of ball handling skills. Because the SEC is heavy on pressing, he feels his team must be solid in their press break. Once the ball is thrown in, Brady wants to have a sideline, middle, reverse and deep pass available for the passer. Cutters are taught to catch and score, which will draw defenders and free up space for other players. By walking through this press break, Brady demonstrates each option from various spots on the floor. Multiple options give teams flexibility when facing pressure. Brady preaches that hands must be available for all passers, ball fakes are essential and the use of two hard dribbles from any spot will stretch the defense and create passing opportunities down the floor. He demonstrates a special option against the press, One Down, which is designed for a deep pass and a lay-up. Moving to transition offense, Brady shares his thought on scoring on the offensive end. He shows a designated break from a free throw situation that allows for quick breaks for baskets. Many options are illustrated at the end of the break for excellent scoring opportunities. Spacing, stagger screening and on-ball screens are part of this transition system.
