with Larry Shyatt,
University of Florida Assistant Coach

A major focus on the practice floor at the University of Florida is competitive "peer pressure" drills. Starting with an aggressive stretch, players prepare to give an all out effort on the floor. The Gators have found that using "peer pressure" as a tool can be very effective. 'Loud and proud' communication is mandatory for every player in every drill, practice and game. The first full court drill is the lay-up drill with a goal of 13 made lay-ups. Full court passing drills create good habits, communication and passing skills. Other passing drills include three-man full court passing and three-man weave. Team ball handling is accomplished by the dribble series. This series includes the speed drills and ability to maneuver around cones on the floor. The 44-and-1 lay-up drill pushes players to make 44 lay-ups in one minute. Coach Shyatt shares six perimeter-shooting drills, and concludes with an intense defensive shell drill that incorporates positioning with the rope technique.

74 minutes. 2008.
