I woud like to hear from others before I pay for the camp. I e-mailed him and it is $150 per camper. I though this was pretty good for a two day camp and he will meet with the coaches to discuss ideas. I really like the offense, especially the fact that the creator will come to you. just wanted to get some opinions before i dish out the money.

I've been running RnR at the grassroots level with varying levels of success. I feel it still depends very heavily on the overall skill level of your team (though you could say that about every offense).

My problem has been that, if a team is not overly skilled or new to the game, the players will be overwhelmed with the number of decisions that have to be made at game pace. I've tried installing a hierarchy of reads:

Ie. After receiving the ball you should...
1) Look to pass to cutter, then
2) Look to dribble penetrate, then
3) Pass east-west and cut

Which has worked in the latter parts of a season (once the kids have gotten used to the habits).

What I'm considering doing is running a series of quick-hitters that are based on RnR principles, in order to cut down on the number of reads and decisions that a player has to make. Eventually phasing out the plays altogether and letting the players just play according to those rules.

Push/Pull Offense

Push/Pull is really a combination of what is now being called Read and React infused with both DDM and Drive and Kick. Push/ Pull can be run as the only phase of the offense or as phase two after a cutter or series of cutters. The concepts can be adapted easily to three, four and five out offensive sets. I have found it most effective when combined with ball reversal, screening and player movement because getting the defense moving to stop screening and cutting then driving is much more difficult. Push/Pull was named for the terminology used to describe player movement especially on the perimeter. When any player dribbles at you, they push you to a position that makes it difficult, spacing wise, for your defender to recover before you shoot or drive. When the player dribbles away from you, you are pulled along with other players to a position that shortens passes back to you and promotes ball reversal, skip and diagonal passes. Post players on the ball side step up to the elbow on baseline wing drive or post up at the block on a middle drive unless they are a face up player then they step to short corner. Two post sets require coordination to allow perimeters to get room to drive. I have used Push/Pull only with minor set adjustments against zone defenses. We simply drive behind cutters making defenders readjust after defending a cutter making it very difficult to help.

Hi Coach Daniel,

What type of offences have you used previously and feel comfortable with?

What skill sets do your players have?

On our website we have written a post about common mistakes coaches make when selecting an offense. This might be of help.
