Basketball Conditioning Drills - Gorilla Slides

Description:

This is a conditioning and defensive drill.

Instructions:

1. Line players up on the baseline however you want. (1 larger group across or break into 4 lines across)

2. On your whistle, the first player in line will break down in a defensive stance, with their finger tips touching the ground. Players should bend their knees to get their finger tips down to the ground, not their hips. Their hands will hang down between their legs, not to the outside.

3. Players will slide down the length of the floor performing a defensive slide and dragging their finger tips along the ground. Players finger tips should not leave the ground. They should not bob up and down while sliding. Their eyes should always be looking up.

4. They should not go fast. Control their pace.

5. Once the 1st player in line gets to the near FT line, the next player will begin his gorilla slide.

6. Once they cross the baseline at the other end, they will wait for everyone to finish and then repeat going back.

Number of Players:

1 - entire team

Tips:

Don't have them do more than 2 trips down and back. This will kill their legs the first couple of times that you perform them.

Don't let them bend at the hips. Make them bend their knees and keep their backs as straight as possible.

Also make them keep their heads up.

Stress good technique on the slide
