Basketball Defensive Drills - NBA Combine 3 vs 2

3 vs 2 Drill run at NBA draft Combine

Instructions:

Place three players on baseline with ball handler in middle line with a ball.

Place two defenders on same end of court at top of the key in defensive stance facing the offensive players.

On first whistle defenders defensive slide and touch sideline(going opposite directions)

On second whistle the offense players begin a fast break towards the other basket with the primary ballhandler with the ball in the middle. The two defenders now sprint back, "Talk and point".

Top man in tandem stops ball, second man closes out on first pass. Top man then drops to ball level. If on reversal back to top man a drive attempt is made, bottom man must "step up" and take a charge.

If a shot is taken from the wing or top, the defense boxes and gets the rebound or on a make takes out of bounds. They now runs a two on one, vs the man who passed from up top or took shot from up top.

Number of Players:

3 on offense and 2 on defense

Tips:

Make sure defenders point and talk. Encourage offense to mix it up and drive to the rim from the top, so charges can be taken.

Variations:

Place three defenders on the floor. On second whistle the defender closest to the basket must sprint and touch the baseline, then get back into the play to help vs the 3 on 2 break.

Upon a defensive rebound, the defense now runs a three on three break back at the offensive players.

Skills:

Develops defensive sliding techniques, communication and toughness (taking charges)
