Basketball Rebounding Drills - Guard and Forward Switch Shot

Description:

Players pair off into forward with guard. Starting with the guards behind the 3 point line all forwards gather inside the key area.

Coach throws ball at basket, forwards must attempt to rebound and put ball back in hoop. If shot misses, continue rebounding. BUT this time ball must be passed out to the forward's team member for an outside shot. Play continues until a shot is hit, then the perimeter shooters rotate around. The coach at anytime may say 'JUMP' which signals that the perimeter shooters will replace the rebounders, so that all players have the opportunity to practice shooting and rebounding.

Instructions:

This drill helps with creating a tough environment for players to rebound under, therefore improving their strength. Accuracy and balance must be maintained for rebounder to make shot first time.

Scoring can be done as follows:

- first rebound and shot scored = 3 pts

- outside shot = 2 pts

this adds emphasis onto the rebounding component as they score more points for rebounding and scoring from under the basket.

Number of Players:

8 +

Tips:

This is a good way for coaches to get involved with junior teams also a confidence booster for guards to block out under the basket and for forwards to get a chance at putting up outside shoots.
