The drill is designed to make the defense hustle back on defense and for the offense to make good passes and decisions on the break.
The offense is setup with 1 at half cour, 1 at the foul line, 2 at the wing opposite each other and the big man facing the hoop with the ball. The defense is setup with 1 at the top of the key and 4 on the baseline, 2 on each side of the paint and 2 on each wing. The 2 by the paint decide which one will hinder the big man. Play begins with the big man throwing the ball off the glass, as soon as the ball is tossed the defense and offense can take off toward the opposite hoop. 1 defender must hinder the passer and the rest hustle back on defense. The big man can dribble out of danger to hit his outlet or look for the long pass.
10 players are needed
I try to stress that the defense must not allow a layup, and that they anticipate the next pass. Offensively I want them to make good choices with the ball and see the entire floor. My kids really enjoy the drill.
