The Saint Francis University Red Flash are one of the highest scoring teams in the country and tops in their league. In this video, you will get to see how they prepare and create such a high-octane offense. This open practice video also gives a sneak peek into the workings of head coach Rob Krimmel as he guides his team though a complete practice.

Pre-Practice & Warm-Ups

The Red Flash hit the floor to get loose and focused by reviewing time & score plays in the full court as they review Back Screen and Double Fist. Next, they run a series of warm-ups, beginning with dynamic stretching and different full and half-court defensive slides. Two 5-man weave drills follow, like the Sixer Drill, which runs the players through different 3-on-2, 2-on-1, and 1-on-1 situations for a fast-paced, competitive take on the tradition 5-man weave.

Drills & End of Half

In the early stages of practice, Coach Krimmel puts his players through two transition offense drills to instill their fast-paced style of play. Bulldog Shooting trains players to make decisions within their transition offense while running at full speed. The Running of the Bulls then adds transition defense into the mix with a 5-on-4 offensive advantage with a trailer defender.

You can never practice the crucial, pressure-filled end of half situation! Incorporating more special situations to your practices in different ways will only increase your team's success. In this four-minute segment to simulate the end of the first half and media time-out, the Red Flash play out the different scenarios as they spontaneously occur. They then split up into groups to shoot free throws.

Next, you will get a closeout drill and see how Krimmel has his team play out different defensive scenarios and ball screen coverages in the half-court as the starters take on the scout team.Moving back to offense, the coaching staff puts players through shooting drills to work on segments of their offense. Motion Shooting incorporates 3-on-0 actions to work on the reads within plays.

5-on-0 Offense, Shots Against the Zone, & Game Prep

To perfect any offense, players must know the movements, expectations, and scoring options. This 5-on-0 offensive segment works on three different plays as well as the many reads Coach Krimmel wants his players to master. The All One drill puts it all together versus a defense as the Red Flash work on their motion offense in live play.

To finish up practice, Coach Krimmel puts his team through shooting drills that simulate shots against a zone defense. More situations follow as the team works on everything from their motion offense, zone offense, and press breaks. You will even see a few baseline and sideline out of bounds plays. Rounding it out, Krimmel has them review their press break against a 2-2-1 and wrap up practice with a full court shooting drill.

This is a great look into a full and well-rounded practice. You'll observe great ways to incorporate various situations into your practices so your team will never be caught off guard during a game!
