From his early days as a high school coach and teacher, to winning a national championship in major college basketball, all the way up to the coaching in the NBA, Steve Fisher has seen it all in a lifetime of coaching basketball.

More important than having a successful season is learning how to sustain success over a period of seasons with new players joining a program every year. Coach Fisher uses this on-court clinic presentation to discuss building a program capable of competing for championships. You'll gain new insight on how he teaches his players life lessons, teaches the game, motivates his team, and other critical principles to building the program of your dreams.

Additionally, Coach Fisher gives you some new ideas for practice drills and special situations in games.

Expand your role as a coach to become a teacher of more than just the game of basketball. Coach Fisher has drawn inspiration for his teaching philosophy from one of the greatest coaches to ever grace the sport: John Wooden. You'll learn how to apply the "Pyramid of Success" into your program with teachable moments through "Thoughts of the Day," motivational materials, and what you emphasize in games and practices.

The concept of having a positive attitude is important in building a program and projecting it as a leader. Citing examples from building up his program at San Diego State from a four-win team to multiple NCAA Tournament berths, Fisher talks about how the program made improvements in large part due to a positive attitude. Reflect upon your own coaching practices with the suggestions made by Fisher for maintaining positivity, handling adversity, and valuing winning beyond the scoreboard.

You will also gain new strategies for strengthening the organization of your program with practical suggestions in a variety of topics. Coach Fisher shares ideas for boosting community support, developing youth programs, working with parents, and ideas for optimizing practices.

Pregame Routines

Maximize your game preparation with Fisher's pregame routines. You'll learn how to share essential scouting information without overwhelming players and get five key statistics for success that San Diego State values in every game.

Drills to Build a Program

To build a successful program, fundamental skills and drills must be utilized as a point of emphasis. Fisher demonstrates four drills that he uses to develop ball handling and shooting. The ball handling drills will teach your players five dribble moves they can utilize while warming up for practice. Two shooting drills help players become knockdown shooters as they compete against timed goals. The "Denver Drill" is the ultimate practice drill for working on every fast break situation you might encounter in games.

Fisher also shows how you can increase your offensive rebounding on free throws with the "X" strategy and draws up a sideline out of bounds play that will help you get an unguarded 3-point shot out of timeouts.

This video has valuable concepts and drills to help any coach in their quest for getting the most out of their team!
